Mons Pubis Liposuction in Sharjah

What is mons pubis liposuction?
Mons pubis liposuction is a targeted form of liposuction for the mons pubis, the cushion of fat and skin that sits over the pubic bone, just above the vulva. The mons protects the bone beneath it, and its size is largely set by genetics and hormones. It stores fat readily and is often one of the last areas to change with diet and exercise.
The procedure removes fat from the mons through small incisions using a thin, hollow tube called a cannula. Where the skin has also stretched and droops, a mons lift (monsplasty) removes a strip of loose skin through a low horizontal incision and raises the area. At Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah, mons pubis liposuction and mons lift are carried out in-house by the gynaecology and obstetrics team. The general principles of the technique are the same as those on the liposuction page, applied here to a small and sensitive area.
Who needs it
Mons pubis liposuction is considered by women who have a prominent pubic mound that bothers them, for comfort or for appearance. Typical situations include:
- a fullness that shows through close-fitting clothing, swimwear or sportswear
- rubbing and sweating in the skin folds of the lower abdomen and groin
- a mons that looks more prominent after abdominal liposuction or a tummy tuck has flattened the area above it
- loose, drooping skin after pregnancy or major weight loss, where a lift is also considered
The decision rests on two things: how much of the fullness is fat, and how firm the skin is. The gynaecologist examines you standing and lying down, pinches the fat layer and checks how well the skin springs back. Firm skin with excess fat usually suits liposuction alone. Loose skin generally needs a lift, either on its own or with liposuction. If your weight is still changing, reaching a stable weight first gives the most predictable shape, and a healthy-weight plan is part of the discussion.
Other body areas can be treated in the same session, and the hospital's body contouring service covers wider reshaping. The choice is yours after the options are explained.
What happens
Mons pubis liposuction is done in an operating theatre under local anaesthetic with sedation or under general anaesthetic, agreed with the anaesthetist beforehand. The planned area is marked while you are standing, because fat sits differently when you lie down.
The gynaecologist makes one or two tiny incisions, usually hidden within the pubic hairline or skin crease. A fluid containing local anaesthetic and a medicine that narrows small blood vessels is spread through the fat to reduce bleeding and discomfort. The cannula is then moved back and forth in a fan pattern to loosen and suction out fat evenly, with frequent checks by hand for a smooth contour that blends into the abdomen and thighs.
If a lift is part of the plan, a strip of skin is removed through a low horizontal incision in the bikini line, often placed along an existing caesarean scar where there is one, and the skin is drawn up and closed. The incisions are stitched and dressed, and a compression garment is fitted. Liposuction alone is usually a day case; a lift may involve an overnight stay.
Preparing for it
A consultation and examination come first, followed by a pre-operative assessment, blood tests and an anaesthetic review. Tell the team about every medicine and supplement you take, particularly blood thinners, and you receive fasting instructions for the day.
Stopping smoking before and after surgery helps the skin heal. Trim pubic hair a few days beforehand rather than shaving on the day, which reduces skin irritation. Have your compression garment, loose clothing and pads ready at home, and arrange a lift home and help for the first days. If you plan surgery around Ramadan or the summer, raise it early so fasting and the heat can be planned for.
Afterwards
Swelling and bruising are expected. Because fluid drains downward, the labia can also swell and bruise for a time, which is a normal part of healing after surgery on the mons. Some fluid may leak from the small incisions in the first day or two.
Wear the compression garment as advised, day and night at first, to support the area and help swelling settle. Short walks from the first day help circulation. In the Sharjah heat, keep the skin under the garment clean and dry, change pads as needed and drink plenty of water. Desk work usually resumes sooner than physical work, and your gynaecologist tells you when intercourse, swimming and exercise can restart. The final contour becomes clear over several months as swelling fades.
Contact the hospital urgently if the area becomes hot, red and increasingly painful, if an incision leaks pus, or if you have a fever. **Go to the emergency department straight away if you have pain and swelling in one calf, sudden breathlessness or chest pain, or rapidly increasing swelling with heavy bleeding.**
Cost and insurance
Mons pubis liposuction and mons lift are cosmetic procedures and are self-pay; UAE insurance plans usually exclude them. The cost depends on whether liposuction alone or a lift is needed, and on any other areas treated in the same session. Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah explains the costs at consultation; call 06 599 7777.

Frequently asked questions
What are the risks of mons pubis liposuction?
Mons pubis liposuction carries risks including bleeding, infection, fluid collecting under the skin, numbness, an uneven or dimpled contour and a reaction to the anaesthetic. A lift adds a scar that can widen or thicken, and blood clots are a risk of any operation. Your gynaecologist explains how these risks apply to you before you decide.
Will the fat come back after mons pubis liposuction?
The fat cells removed by mons pubis liposuction are gone, but the remaining fat cells in the area and elsewhere can still enlarge if you gain weight. Keeping a stable weight helps maintain the new contour.
Do I need liposuction or a mons lift?
Liposuction suits a full mons with firm skin, while a mons lift is needed when the skin is loose or drooping. Many women with loose skin have both. Your gynaecologist decides with you after examining the area.
Where will the scars be?
Liposuction leaves one or two tiny scars, usually hidden in the pubic hair or skin crease. A mons lift leaves a longer, low horizontal scar in the bikini line, often placed along an existing caesarean scar.
Why are my labia swollen after mons pubis liposuction?
Swelling of the labia after mons pubis liposuction is common, because fluid from the treated area drains downward. It settles gradually; contact the hospital if the swelling increases sharply or is very painful.
Can mons pubis liposuction be done with a tummy tuck?
Mons pubis liposuction is often combined with abdominal liposuction or a tummy tuck, so the pubic area blends with the flatter abdomen. Your doctor plans combined procedures with you at consultation.
