Neck Lift Surgery in Sharjah

What is a neck lift?
A neck lift, known medically as a lower rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic operation that reshapes the neck and jawline. It usually combines three steps: lifting and trimming loose skin, tightening the thin sheet of muscle beneath it, known as the platysma, and removing fat from under the chin where that improves the contour.
With time the two edges of the platysma can drift apart at the front of the neck and form two vertical cords, often called neck bands. Loose skin gathers into folds, the angle between chin and neck softens, and fat collects under the chin. A neck lift treats these changes together, which is why it reshapes the neck more completely than treating the skin or the fat alone.
Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah performs neck lift surgery within its Plastic Surgery department. Where the jowls and cheeks have descended as well, the neck lift is often combined with a facelift in a single operation, because the jawline and neck age together.
Who needs it
A neck lift suits adults in good general health who want to address loose neck skin, visible neck bands or a blurred jawline, and whose goals match what neck surgery can achieve. It is a personal cosmetic choice, and good skin elasticity, a stable weight and being a non-smoker all support a lasting result.
Your first appointment is a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Hamid Esmaeil, Specialist General & Cosmetic Surgeon. He assesses three things separately: how much loose skin there is, how prominent the neck bands are when you clench your jaw, and how much of the fullness under the chin is fat. That assessment decides the plan:
- Fullness mainly from fat, with firm skin, often suits liposuction under the chin on its own.
- Loose skin with visible bands suits a neck lift that tightens the platysma and trims the skin.
- A descended jawline and cheeks as well as the neck suits a combined face and neck lift.
Diabetes, blood pressure and blood-thinning medicines all affect healing, so the surgeon reviews each of these carefully, and you take time to decide before a date is booked.
What happens
On the day of surgery you are admitted to Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah, where the anaesthetist reviews your health and explains the anaesthesia planned for you. A neck lift is usually performed under general anaesthesia, or under local anaesthesia with sedation for a more limited operation.
The surgeon makes a short incision in the natural crease under the chin. Through it, fat is removed where needed and the inner edges of the platysma are stitched together down the centre of the neck, like lacing a corset, which smooths the bands and sharpens the angle under the chin. Further incisions in the crease behind the ear and into the hairline allow the skin to be lifted, redraped upward and backward, and the excess trimmed. The incisions are closed with fine stitches, a small drain may be placed for the first day, and a supportive dressing or neck garment is applied. Many patients stay overnight so the nursing team can check the neck and comfort before going home.
Preparing for it
- Stop smoking and vaping well ahead of surgery, as nicotine reduces blood flow to the lifted skin and slows healing.
- Bring a full list of your medicines and supplements. Some blood thinners and herbal products are paused before surgery. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without advice from your doctor.
- Complete your pre-operative tests, such as blood tests, at the hospital on the date you are given.
- Plan your recovery around work, family events and travel. Many people in the UAE choose the cooler months, and those who fast should discuss timing around Ramadan with the team.
- Arrange a companion to take you home and stay with you for the first night, and keep button-front tops ready so nothing has to be pulled over your head.
Afterwards
After a neck lift, swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness around the neck and jaw are expected, and they settle gradually. You wear a supportive neck garment for a period, sleep with the head raised on pillows and keep the neck fairly straight, turning the whole body rather than twisting the neck. Follow-up visits at Dar Al Kamal Hospital check the incisions and remove the stitches at the right time.
Protect healing scars from the strong UAE sun with shade and a hat, and stay cool and well hydrated in the heat. Desk-based work usually resumes sooner than driving-heavy or manual roles that involve turning the head, and your surgeon gives you a recovery timeline for your own procedure.
Contact the hospital promptly if one side of the neck becomes suddenly more swollen, tight or painful, if a wound becomes red, hot or discharges, or if you develop a fever. If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, or rapidly increasing swelling of the neck, call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
Cost and insurance
A neck lift for appearance is cosmetic surgery, and health insurance in the UAE usually excludes it, so it is typically self-funded. The cost depends on whether liposuction or a facelift is combined with it, the anaesthesia and the length of stay, and a full breakdown is given at your consultation. Frequently asked questions
Is neck lift surgery performed at Dar Al Kamal Hospital?
Yes. Neck lift surgery is performed in-house at Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah by Dr. Hamid Esmaeil, Specialist General & Cosmetic Surgeon. The consultation, pre-operative tests, operation and follow-up visits all take place at the hospital.
What are the risks of a neck lift?
A neck lift carries the risks of any major operation, including bleeding, a collection of blood under the skin called a haematoma, infection, reactions to anaesthesia and blood clots. Specific risks include visible or widened scars, uneven contour, numbness of the neck or ear, skin healing problems (more likely in smokers) and, rarely, injury to a nerve that moves the lower lip. The surgeon explains your individual risks before you consent.
How long do the results of a neck lift last?
A neck lift gives a long-lasting improvement, but the neck continues to age naturally after surgery. Stable weight, sun protection and avoiding smoking help preserve the result, and the surgeon explains what to expect for your skin.
Can liposuction alone fix a double chin?
Liposuction alone can improve a full chin when the fullness is mainly fat and the skin has good elasticity. When there is loose skin or visible neck bands, liposuction by itself can leave the skin looser, and a neck lift or combined approach is usually advised.
Will the scars show after a neck lift?
Neck lift scars are placed behind the ear, within the hairline and in the crease under the chin, so they are largely hidden once healed. Scars fade over months, and how they mature varies with your skin type and healing.
Is a neck lift covered by insurance?
A neck lift carried out for appearance is cosmetic surgery and is usually excluded from UAE health insurance, so it is typically self-funded. Call 06 599 7777 to ask about fees.
Can a neck lift be combined with a facelift?
A neck lift is often combined with a facelift when the jowls and cheeks have descended as well as the neck, because the two areas age together. The consultation assesses your whole face and neck and advises whether a neck lift alone or a combined operation suits you.
