Vaginal Mesotherapy in Sharjah

What is vaginal mesotherapy?
Vaginal mesotherapy is a hydration treatment for the lining of the vagina and the vulva. A very fine needle places tiny droplets of a light hyaluronic acid preparation, often combined with vitamins, amino acids and minerals, into the tissue just below the surface, at many points close together.
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based substance the body already makes, found naturally in the vaginal wall, the skin and the joints. It binds and holds many times its own weight in water, and the tissue's level of it falls when oestrogen falls. Mesotherapy tops this up directly where it is needed and adds nutrients the tissue uses for renewal.
The preparation used in mesotherapy is fluid and spreads in a thin layer, which makes it different from a dermal filler, a thicker gel designed to add volume in one place. The hyaluronic acid is broken down naturally by the body over the following months. The treatment contains no hormones, which makes it relevant for women who prefer, or have been advised, to avoid hormone treatment. At Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah, vaginal mesotherapy is performed in-house by the gynaecology and obstetrics team.
Who needs it
Vaginal mesotherapy is used for dryness, and the symptoms that come with it: itching, burning, soreness, a feeling of tightness, discomfort during intercourse or daily activity, and irritation after passing urine. Dryness has several common causes:
| Cause | Why dryness happens |
|---|---|
| Menopause | Oestrogen falls and the vaginal lining thins |
| Breastfeeding | Oestrogen stays low while breastfeeding continues |
| Hormone-blocking cancer treatment | Treatment for breast cancer lowers oestrogen on purpose |
| Some medicines | Certain contraceptive pills, antihistamines and antidepressants dry tissues |
| Diabetes | High blood sugar affects the lining and its moisture |
Infections such as thrush or bacterial vaginosis, and skin conditions of the vulva, cause similar symptoms, so the gynaecologist examines you and may take swabs first. Other options include vaginal moisturisers and lubricants and, where suitable, hormone treatment through menopause management. Women with a history of hormone-sensitive breast cancer are a group for whom a hormone-free option is often discussed, together with their oncologist. The same principle applied to the face is described on the mesotherapy page.
What happens
You change privately and lie on the examination couch. Numbing cream is applied to the vulva and the vaginal entrance and left to work.
The gynaecologist places a speculum gently, then uses a very fine needle to make a series of tiny injections along the vaginal walls, followed by injections at the vaginal entrance, known as the vestibule, and the inner vulval skin. Each injection leaves a droplet that you may feel as a small raised point for a few hours. The session is short, and you go home straight afterwards.
Vaginal mesotherapy is given as a course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions as the body gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid. The gynaecologist sets the plan at your first visit.
Preparing for it
Any infection found at the consultation is treated before the first session. Plan sessions for days away from your period. Stop using vaginal creams, pessaries or lubricants on the day of treatment, and arrive without talc or perfumed products in the area.
Tell the gynaecologist about any history of cancer and its treatment, autoimmune conditions, blood-thinning medicines, cold sores or genital herpes, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Wear loose clothing and bring a panty liner. During Ramadan, sessions can be booked at whatever time suits your fasting and work.
Afterwards
Mild tenderness, a sensation of small bumps, and light spotting are normal and settle within a day or two. Normal daily activity and desk work can continue the same day. Leave intercourse, tampons, swimming pools and hard exercise until the gynaecologist confirms the tissue has settled, usually after a short interval explained before you leave.
Wash the area with plain water and a gentle, unperfumed wash. In the Sharjah heat, wear breathable cotton underwear and change out of damp clothes promptly, because warmth and moisture encourage infection in recently treated tissue. Continue any lubricant or moisturiser the gynaecologist recommends between sessions.
Contact the hospital if pain, swelling or spotting increases, if you notice an unusual or foul-smelling discharge, or if you develop a fever. **Go to the emergency department straight away if you have heavy bleeding, sudden swelling of the face or lips, or difficulty breathing.**
Cost and insurance
Vaginal mesotherapy is an elective treatment, and UAE insurance plans usually exclude it, so it is normally self-pay. The consultation, swabs and tests used to investigate dryness, pain or recurrent irritation may be covered by your plan, sometimes with pre-approval. Because it is given as a course, ask for the cost of the full plan. Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah can explain the costs on 06 599 7777.

Frequently asked questions
What are the risks of vaginal mesotherapy?
Vaginal mesotherapy commonly causes tenderness, small raised bumps, light spotting and minor bruising at the injection points. Less often it can cause infection, a flare of genital herpes in women who carry the virus, or an allergic reaction to an ingredient in the preparation. The gynaecologist explains how these risks apply to you before treatment.
Does vaginal mesotherapy contain hormones?
Vaginal mesotherapy contains no hormones. The preparation is based on hyaluronic acid, sometimes with vitamins and amino acids, which is why it is considered for women who want or need to avoid oestrogen.
Can I have vaginal mesotherapy after breast cancer?
Vaginal mesotherapy is hormone-free, so it is one of the options discussed for dryness after breast cancer and during hormone-blocking treatment. The gynaecologist plans it together with your oncologist's advice and checks the timing against your cancer treatment.
How is vaginal mesotherapy different from a vaginal filler?
Vaginal mesotherapy uses a fluid hyaluronic acid preparation spread in a thin layer to hydrate the tissue, while a filler uses a thicker gel to add volume to a specific area. The purpose, the product and the injection technique are different.
How long does vaginal mesotherapy last?
The hyaluronic acid used in vaginal mesotherapy is broken down naturally by the body over months, so the treatment is followed by maintenance sessions. How often you need them depends on the cause of your dryness, and the gynaecologist plans them with you.
Can I have vaginal mesotherapy while breastfeeding?
Vaginal mesotherapy is usually postponed while breastfeeding, and dryness at this stage often improves once breastfeeding ends and hormone levels recover. In the meantime, the gynaecologist can recommend moisturisers and lubricants that are safe while breastfeeding.
Does vaginal mesotherapy hurt?
Vaginal mesotherapy is made comfortable with numbing cream applied beforehand. The injections feel like small, quick pricks with some pressure, and the needle used is very fine.
