Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation in Sharjah

What is laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a treatment for vaginal dryness and thinning, most often after menopause, using a CO2 laser set for the lining of the vagina. Its focus is the quality of the lining: how thick, moist and elastic it is. Tightness is a separate aim, covered by CO2 laser vaginal tightening.
After menopause, oestrogen levels fall and the vaginal lining changes. It becomes thinner, holds less moisture, has fewer small blood vessels and loses some of its natural acidity, which normally keeps healthy bacteria in balance. Doctors call the resulting dryness, burning, soreness with intimacy and urinary urgency the genitourinary syndrome of menopause, because the vagina, vulva and the base of the bladder are all affected together.
The laser makes tiny, controlled points of heat in the lining. As the lining repairs those points, it builds new cell layers, new small blood vessels and fresh collagen, which is the tissue response the treatment is designed to trigger. The settings are chosen for thin, delicate tissue, and particular attention goes to the vaginal entrance, where soreness usually concentrates.
Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah provides laser vaginal rejuvenation in-house, within the gynaecology and obstetrics department.
Who needs it
Laser vaginal rejuvenation suits women with vaginal dryness, itching, burning or discomfort during intimacy linked to menopause, whether natural, after surgery to remove the ovaries, or after cancer treatment that lowered oestrogen. It is one option within wider menopause management, alongside moisturisers, lubricants and local or systemic hormone treatment.
It particularly suits women who prefer a hormone-free option, and women who have been advised to avoid hormones, for example after a hormone-sensitive cancer, once their cancer specialist agrees. Some women use it together with vaginal oestrogen.
Before treatment, the gynaecologist checks that dryness and thinning explain your symptoms. Itching and soreness can also come from skin conditions of the vulva or infections, and urinary symptoms can come from infection, which is covered on the UTI treatment page. Any bleeding after menopause is investigated first.
What happens
At the consultation, the gynaecologist asks about your periods, menopause, hormone use and any cancer history, and examines the vaginal lining to see how thin and dry it is. Female doctors are available on request.
For the treatment, you lie on the couch as for a routine gynaecology check. Because menopausal tissue can be sensitive, a numbing cream is often applied to the vaginal entrance first. A slim, smooth probe is placed in the vagina, and the doctor moves it in steps so the laser reaches the lining evenly. The entrance, and sometimes the inner vulva, is treated separately with a small handpiece.
You feel warmth and a light, rapid tapping during the session. Dry tissue can feel tender when the probe is placed, so plenty of gel is used and the doctor goes at your pace. There are no cuts or stitches, and you go home straight afterwards. A course is usually a few sessions spaced several weeks apart, with a top-up session later often discussed.
Preparing for it
Make sure your cervical screening is up to date; it can be done first through cervical cancer screening. Bring a list of your medicines, including any hormone treatment, and letters from any cancer specialist. The doctor may ask you to pause vaginal creams or pessaries for a short time before each session and tells you when to restart them.
Any vaginal or urinary infection is treated first. Wear loose clothing and bring a panty liner. If you would like the session outside fasting hours during Ramadan, say so at booking and the team times it around you.
Afterwards
A light watery or pink discharge and mild sensitivity or warmth are normal for a short time. Use the moisturiser or gel the doctor recommends, wear loose cotton underwear, and in the Sharjah heat choose breathable clothing and keep well hydrated. The doctor gives you a personal timeline for intimacy, tampons, swimming and baths. Daily routines, including desk work and driving, usually carry on the next day.
A review before each session checks how the lining has responded, and the doctor adjusts the plan with you, including how laser treatment fits with any hormone therapy.
Contact the hospital if you develop bleeding heavier than spotting, a fever, pelvic pain, a foul-smelling discharge or burning when passing urine after treatment.
Cost and insurance
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is usually self-pay, as UAE insurance plans generally treat laser vaginal treatments as elective. The menopause consultation and tests for your symptoms may be covered under your plan with pre-approval. Dar Al Kamal Hospital, Sharjah explains the cost of the full course at consultation. Frequently asked questions
What are the risks of laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation can cause temporary discharge, spotting, soreness, swelling or burning, and less commonly infection, scarring or pain with intimacy. Health regulators have cautioned that laser treatment for menopausal vaginal symptoms is still being studied, and evidence on long-term effects is developing. Your gynaecologist discusses how this applies to you.
Is laser vaginal rejuvenation an alternative to vaginal oestrogen?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a hormone-free option for vaginal dryness, while vaginal oestrogen remains a well-established treatment. Some women choose one, some use both, and your gynaecologist helps you weigh them against your health history.
Can I have laser vaginal rejuvenation after breast cancer?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is often considered after breast cancer because it uses no hormones. It is planned only with the agreement of your cancer specialist, so bring their letters to the consultation.
What is the difference between laser vaginal rejuvenation and CO2 laser vaginal tightening?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation targets the thin, dry lining that follows menopause, while CO2 laser vaginal tightening targets laxity, most often after childbirth. The laser type is the same, but the settings, the areas of focus and the follow-up are planned differently.
Does laser vaginal rejuvenation help urinary symptoms?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation acts on the vaginal lining, which sits next to the base of the bladder, and urinary urgency linked to menopause is part of what it is designed to address. The evidence for urinary symptoms is still developing, and urine infections are always checked and treated first.
Does laser vaginal rejuvenation hurt if the tissue is very dry?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is usually felt as warmth and light tapping, and numbing cream and generous gel help when the tissue is dry and tender. The doctor works at your pace and can pause at any time.
Can I keep using HRT during laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Hormone replacement therapy can usually continue during laser vaginal rejuvenation. Tell your gynaecologist about every hormone product you use, including vaginal creams, which may be paused briefly around each session.
